I have finished with a little web application easy-php-web-form-creator that creates custom PHP web forms and spits out the html/javascript/css and PHP to handle the form.  I built this for fun and is free.  I find myself creating the same forms over and over again as a web developer so I thought what the heck :)   Really it is a framework to build upon as your forms should have even more validation if possible but this is a great start!

Features:

  • Custom Amount of Required Fields
  • Custom Amount of Non-Required Fields
  • Custom Amount of Text-Areas eg. Message/Comments
  • Optional Email List / Newsletter Signup Box
  • Multiple End Recipients
  • Copy and Paste Code
  • Light Weight
  • Smells good :)

Welp its finally done.  With this script web developers can easily detect Internet Explorer 6 and offer the end user with a download link to upgrade to the latest IE.  The user can still surf your site, only they have been alerted.  Uses Php xhtml, css, jQuery.  Visit the site to learn more, and see examples.

After my last post I really got to thinking that really a user needs direction rather than a shunning.  As developers we cannot and should not ignore almost a 1/4 of the internet surfers out there.  So I am developing a  script to detect Internet Explorer 6 then throw a nice alert at the top of your webpage informing the end user that they are using an out dated browser offering a link to the Microsoft website where they can upgrade their web browser.  It then leans on jQuery for a fancy fade out gimmick to close the box.

Very easy to implement and works great.  I will post the files in a few days along with directions.

While being a web developer weird thoughts do enter one’s mind.  This is surely one of them that I think we all can agree on.  )#@$ YOU IE!  From time to time I find myself pulling my hair out (extra work cuz I am bald) working in css hacks and such to get IE6 to jive, or even 7.. as well as conditionals aimed at Microsoft’s weak attempt at a standards compliant browser.

I think boycott isn’t really the answer or even feasable but c’mon M$oft get with it

Till they get it right (uh hum.. webkit) I will just take the extra time to write clean code and IE workarounds.

If you know anyone still leaning on the browser and that are not aware of alternatives clue them in. Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera

Welp I had to install this on my windows machine for testing and I have to say I really like it.  I feel like Google has done a killer job and is going to set some benchmarks for the entire industry to follow with the release of this browser.  I cannot wait for the mac version.

From a web developer’s standpoint it is built on webkit so if yer site rocks in Safari it will be fine in Chrome.

Why and the heck is it not a reality yet?  I have no idea.  While Apple says it is on the the todo list I cant wait!  I am not even sure if I will use it every day but not having the ability bothers me.  Especially when the nerd sitting next to me has it on their lame Windows Mobile device.  Hard to explain why I cant pull it off.

One of my favorite CSS inspiration galleries featured Thatgrafix.com :)

Coda - Apple Design Awards 2007 winner!

This light weight app simply rules.  I use it for more web application dev than anything.  While I prefer Dreamweaver for the standard stuff it is nice to escape to the land of Coda.  Well worth the money. $99 http://www.panic.com/coda/

Caffeine – Simply put this little app runs in the background and keeps your mac from going to sleep if you would like.  Simple turn it off and you go back to what ever sleep settings you have for your mac.

Smultron – The REAL missing text editor.

Umm… this flipping text editor is by far my favorite, and by far the cheapest.  FREE. After I used it for a day I had to donate though as it is really killer.!

Quicksilver – Productivity at its best!

I had kept reading about this darn app and had to finally try it and was pretty blown away after doing so.  It is scarry how smart this thing is :)  http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/productivity_tools/quicksilver.html Basically it is a REALLY quick method for launching and finding.

This is pretty cool.  You can download the jscript to force IE 6 to handle alpha transparency for .png or just link directly to Google’s code :)
